As an interdisciplinary artist Joseph Dermody, originally from Rhode Island, has always focused on a balanced mix of many different forms of visual and performing arts. He received his Bachelors and Masters of Music Performance from Rhode Island College, Guildhall School of Music in London and Purchase Conservatory, NY.

 

After a decade of building an career as a music performer and studio teacher, Joseph brought his visual artistry, in painting and sculpting, to his career plate and took the artworld (and himself) by surprise, fetching many 1st place awards and Best in Show awards within his first year.

 

Joseph currently identifies himself as an Dimensional Expressionist; His love for music, painting, sculpture and structural design have been synergistically cultivated from early childhood and continues to influence his work across disciplines. His classical training, combined with a desire for experimentation has led to an awareness and freedom that allows for a continuous evolution of creativity and artistry across his many platforms.

Joseph has received eleven awards in the past four years for his visual work including a spot in the NYTimes and Architectural Digest Magazines.  When not painting, Joseph designs and builds furniture at his studio in Upstate New York, professionally plays the violin and viola with various symphonies around NYC, is a founding member of 'Scape Trio. He holds faculty positions in Music at Rye Country Day School, Rye, NY; Concordia College, Bronxville, NY; and a full private teaching studio in Greenwich, CT.

 

Most recently, Joseph founded Harold Avenue Studios, a Brooklyn-inspired re:purposed residential space in Greenwich, CT and online network of Musicians, Artists, and Designers. It is a curated environment for artistic exploration with studio gatherings that include, but are not limited to, music performances, rehearsals, lessons, art displays, lectures, design referrals, consultations, and brainstorming. The studio and online collectives were founded to encourage, enrich, enlighten, serve, support, and help sustain Musicians, Artists, and Designers through exploration, education, networking, collaboration, and cross promotion.
